What Humboldt County allows
Humboldt County was the second county in California, and the state's first rural county, to permit a movable tiny home as a habitable accessory dwelling unit. The county draws a clear line between a Moveable Tiny House (MTH), a certified, code-compliant category built for long-term housing, and an ordinary recreational vehicle, which remains restricted to manufactured home parks, special occupancy parks, and public camping areas. Once installed to the county's MTH standards, the unit carries the same legal status and protections as a conventional dwelling, while still retaining the option to be relocated or sold independently.
